I'll start this contest off by posting the fantastic guitar used in the main header of the contest.  It's a handmade 5-string electric guitar built by Cigar Box Nation member, Joe Chipman.  He gave it to me at a gig in August and I'm still trembling.

It is possibly the greatest electric guitar I've ever owned in my life.  I'm only just starting to use it in concert and it's completely changing my style.  It makes me play jazzier or with a Memphis soul feel.

I'll be writing about this in an upcoming Guitar World column.

Thank you, Joe!

Shane

ps.  I know this isn't a Santa guitar given during the holidays, but I just had to share it!

I can't compete with Shane's 5 string electric, but how about a cigar box Kalimba?  Keys are from an old leaf rake, resting on a piece of CB Gitty fretwire and clamped tight under a piece of 6" heavy wall aluminum tubing.  Sounds pretty good, will be fun to see who ends up with it at the family gift exchange tomorrow!  Last year's ukulele was a big hit! (Both pictured)

Thank you Shane your too kind! I just glad your happy with your guitar. Thank you for the copy of your new book, good read with lots of great ideas. I will be entering my newest completed guitar into the contest.

Joe Chipman

I'm happy to see Joe get some recognition. Joe and I are in the same cbg club in Michigan (CBG minded Michigan'ders), I've played some of Joe's builds and I am a fan of his work.  Congratulations Joe!

Got a build done with lots of help from George McLeod he showed me how to make a really nice neck and a whole bunch of other stuff. The head stock is shaped like a grenade with .303 shell casings added, gumwood with a maple veneer. The neck is stonewood with the fret marker made or of brass on the top only. The box is a 5.56mm ammo can with a preamp and a  Piezo rod pickup mounted under the bridge. Now I have to learn to play it.

My BO Diddley tribute guitar.

I used a silverware box with a Red Oak neck-through construction and Poplar "wings" inside the box for sturdiness. The fret markers are Surf Green, Gitty Gold Tuners, knobs and Toaster Bucker pickups. Gold Lightning bridge system and has a 24.5" scale. The Toaster Buckers are wired to 500k pots and .022 cap. They nail the Gretsch Filtertron tone when adjusted as high as possible.

Base coat is Silver Glitter with a top coat of Caymen Green Metallic. Several coats of clear to finalize. Border trim is Antique White.

This is a CB Amplifier I recently made from a recycled Jewelry Box. I removed the two drawers from below for an echo chamber for one speaker. I hot glued Black fabric to enclose it.

A second speaker and the controls from a small Danelectro Honeytone are inside when the lid is lifted.

How does it sound?  I used it for the song "Picking out a tree" on this year's Cigar Box Nation Christmas Album. Played on a recently built RTL CBG 3 string, tuned Gdd.

This how it looked during construction. It was the C. B. Gitty 9 volt battery holder that was the final piece.

Off the bench for Christmas, (most have gone to new homes),  3 strings, cedar box, oak neck,  delta pick-up,

Off the bench for Christmas,

Here is my partitipation make this summer.
