This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?

I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.

A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

I like that, it looks cool.

A confession because I just tried it and it didn't work. My blue clamps would need to be modded to become a long reach clamp. I would have to imbed the nuts into the wood for it to work like the old fashioned screw clamps. Just having the nuts free doesn't work for that. Perhaps I can make a few more and paint them a different color. Need a two more anyway.

And speaking of my blue clamps. I did a finger tight to wrenching the clamp closed with a scale that goes up to 280. Finger tight I got to 40 lbs  With the wrench and just my fingers holding the bottom nuts I got it all the way up to 240 lb. Had I used two wrenches to tighten the nuts I think I could have maxed that scale easily.

Pic of the three old clamps Can still read part of stamped in label on one. Made in Chicago but has no date.

I have some old ones that, they’re made out of hickory, also made in Chicago. Seems like they last forever?

Hickory does seem to last and practically no give whatsoever.

Oak might also be a good candidate if I hadn't already mentioned it.

Some aluminum channel or tube pieces might also work.

Hi, Here's a simple way to get long reach clamps. I figure all woodworkers would have at least a couple of the sliding bar type of clamps.

I just made up two arms out of some scrap pallet timber, took 10-15minutes, and fitted them to the existing clamp, they are easily removable.

One bolt, one corner bracket bent to suit and a couple of screws, job done.

;)

Stewmac sent me a $15 gift certificate for Christmas so I have 2 - 250k pots and 4 - 500k pots coming in the mail. Then I'll get around to having a couple of short scale tennis racket gits in the works, one will be all wood and one will be mostly metal reso using one of the aluminum turntable platters and metal racket. WhooHoo

Got them this morning - all "A" pots. No "B" pots or even a mix. I remember ordering and there wasn't a option on the order page, I thought I'd at least get half and half mix, I guess they were out of the "B" pots. At least they are the full size ones anyway.

I got ripped off big time with this same situation. Like you I know there's a real difference between the two. And when you want it right you need it right.

Stewmac wrote me back to say that they don't carry the Linear "B" pots.

This has just come off my workbench, a four string hollow body with two humbuckers in the shape of a telecaster and wired as a lesson paul.
(sorry for my bad writing, but I live in the Netherlands)

Hi Robbie, writing is fine and so is that guitar, looks great, what timbers did you use?

Cheers Taff
