Just got myself a fly3 on a months approval for a massive £45!!!

Looks like I'll be busy!!

So far so good...like the small size..I 'll see how the battery life goes!

Had a Roland micro in the past, and it was a great amp, But this little one is very very portable.

Great call, Mark. I'm a big fan of Vox products and although it's not an AD series amp I have the small, battery operated Vox DA5. Nothing wrong with the portable Roland Cubes but I do enjoy that I have an input for both guitar and mic with a separate volume for the mic and guitar channels. It also allows the setting of what output you want from 1.5 watts (I always have it on 1.5 for use in the house as that's plenty for my nreds) up to 5 watts. Helps conserve battery longevity which is always a bonus.

I agree with both Mark and Chickenbone John though. Two good options there and always lots more choice. If you like cool and retro then you've also got to consider the Pignose Amps that Chickenbone John sells too. I had a Hog 20 and loved it.

I agree the Roland range packs the best punch for your buck and the micro cube is exceptional. However I would class the micro cube as a one step up on those practice amps, as you say a great busking amp. But for chucking in your bag or sitting on the work top that you can plug standard headphones into at £45 the fly 3 is great value for money.

I second that, the Roland Cubes seem well made and pack in an awful lot for the money. I recall Seasick Steve has used one of the bigger models. But if you want an amp with a good range of sounds that's small enough to take (almost) anywhere then Microcube is pretty much unbeatable - not a gigging amp but I've seen people busking with them.

Other amps you might consider are the Vox AD series, which are like the Roland cubes in that they use digital modelling and which have a power scaling feature so they can deliver good sounds at a low enough volume for practice while also being able to be turned up to a volume suitable for small gigs. I have an AD30VT that I got for 70 quid off eBay - not portable like a Microcube but a great range of sounds and fantastic at that money.

If you want a decent amp with some effects, in my book there's only one choice, the Roland Cube series. There are plenty of other amps out there, but the Roland is fuss-free, robust and simplicity itself to use.

Thanks very much,cbgkent,

I am using a little use practice amp,for practice!,but am looking for something small that has effects. It's a bit too noisy to fire up the big Marshall in the house.Too many complaints from Mrs SJ!!!

I was in a music shop yesterday, and someone was trying it out,and it seemed OK,but didn't have the time to stay and look.

Thanks again,it's always better to get a recommendation.

Sleepy John, yes I do. A very good little amp excellent value for money AND you can plug normal ear phones into which I find very convenient. Best one of its kind for sure. Yesterday I put a video up on the site titled diddly bow and looper - I. Used the fly 3 for that.

Hope that helps

Does anyone have experience of using a Blackstar Fly 3 miniamp?

Cheers,SJ.
