2019 - fancy and colourful cigar boxes will be illegal in Canada; cigar boxes may become scarce

The Canadian govt plans to pass legislation requiring plain packaging of cigarettes and cigars. To come in effect about May 2019

THIS MEANS NO MORE FANCY COLOURFUL CIGAR BOXES AT YOUR LOCAL CIGAR STORE.

If the cigar stores even survive.

Read the following:

“Health Canada acknowledges that if their Bill is implemented fully, more than fifty percent of the cigars currently available in Canada will disappear from our shelves as most manufacturers will refuse or be unable to comply with the new rules due to cost.“

With many cigar brands disappearing, the stores may not even survive. Smokers are very loyal to their brands - can’t get them in Canada, find them elsewhere. Your source of boxes may also decrease as stores shut down and as sales decline.

Canada ... blank unappealing cigar boxes ... yet colorful and cartoony marijuana packages available in candy flavors .

FYI - some detail - consultation - our opportunity to influence what happens - ends Sept 9th - any comments to your MP should be at them well before this. Just learned this myself yesterday.

BYE BYE COLOURFUL CIGAR BOXES

My cigar store contact told me a few months that plain brown cigar boxes were coming in 2019.

I just heard that by November 2019 all cigarette packages must be plain brown - I assume this will very likely also apply to cigar boxes.

Stock up while you can, or learn to make your own boxes, or we may be able to customize these ugly brown boxes into something attractive!!! (This would be making lemonade out of lemons I guess).
