I really like the design on the lid already. Looks brilliant. Sounds like a winner from your description too. A real nice and generous thought as well, Doug. All the best with the build! :0)

Now that is interesting, I am speaking of the thickness of the box walls. I have always thought the thickness has something to do with the resonance, but seemingly not in every case. It makes perfect sense really, unless one is building a resonator box, in which, quite possibly, a harder wood, but thinner might be a better bet. It is all a learning curve, but good luck with the build, I am sure the lad will be well chuffed with the finished product, I know I would be...!!!

I was wondering about that also. This will be a electric only. The next box will have thinner walls. Like you said it's a learning curve.

As soon as I get more done I will have more photos.

I don't think walls matter that much for resonance. As long as you've got freely vibrating top and back to bounce the sound around you should be digging a goldmine. In my experience anyway and I could be wrong. Check out my video on my page called "When Spongebob went to the edge" (or something like that). It's a purely acoustic six string build and he had 1/2 inch which walls with 1 inch thick bracing internally all the way around. Concentrate on the back and top. The walls are there to just hold the back and top together and provide the rigidity to cope with the string pressure (be it three, six or whatever).

This is all just MY opinion and what I've found. I'm open to being wrong.

The back and top are 1/4" birch plywood. I'm hoping that it will work. I'm thinking that I will be fine. I will check out the video.
