I'd avoid gluing it to the reso directly Bear, it can only dull the reso effect accoustically, wherever you put it, try to avoid gluing initially, until you a sure you are happy with the sound, discs can get pretty harsh on reso's, so you may need to pad it a bit on the bridge if it's too harsh
Hi Mark.
Thanks for helping me out. I really wanted to avoid the biscuit sandwich method as I've been hasty and already wired everything up :/
So DEFINITELY don't hot glue the piezos to the side of the resonator cone even with copious amounts of hot glue?
If needs be then I'll splice my wires, create a sandwich well and then put my biscuit bridge on top of this separate sandwich well piece but I was hoping for easy after the hassle of the build so far lol. I'm turning into Quickfix Harry in my eagerness to be done.
Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate it.
Hi Dani and Bear,
I doubt the option of on the box would be the best for capturing the desired reso tone.
I would use the biscuit sandwich or consider fashioning a violin pickup sandwiched between the bridge and biscuit.
The violin bridge pickup I am talking about normally forms a sort of "cup" that the violin bridge sits in, applying the string load directly onto the piezo. I think if you formed a slot in the biscuit and set a crosspiece/bridge and the pickup in that slot, perhaps that would work well.
Just an idea, haven't actually tried it yet.
Hi folks!
I need some advice on putting a piezo pickup in a resonator build. I'm seeing some people say never glue anything to the cone itself and that's just what I was about to do. I've seen some videos with the piezo glued to the guitar soundboard (wood) internally and near the cone. I've even seen the awesome Ted Crocker with his method of drilling into the biscuit to put the piezos between the biscuit and cone. I'm not confident of drilling into my biscuit so how should I go about putting the piezo into the resonator build?
Help greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance :o)
I am a new builder. (working on builds 2 and 3) I have seen a lot of varied info about setting string height above frets. I have not been using fret boards, so I have discovered that I have to have a fairly low bridge and nut. On my first build I went by some suggestions I read on line from a German builder and set strings about 1-1.5 mm (.040-.060"} at tuner end and 2-2,5 mm (,080-,100") at box end. I don't play much( trying to learn) so I don't know if this is about right. I hear that the "fine tuning" of this height is "personal preference" but I would love some feedback from a few of you "ole pros" if I am close or not.
Thanks
