Now that I've confessed and suitably admonished myself, I has got a questy-onie.

When I bought the wiring harness the listing said it was for single pickup guitars. Why can't I use it for two pickups though? I mean, I know it hasn't got a pickup selector or anything but, if I don't mind adjusting them both with the same volume and tone pots (both a500k pots with weird looking capacitors on each and a solderless connector for the pickup) why can't I use two pickups on it? I'm building a telecaster style guitar and to my (limited) knowledge they always have two pickups?

I'd appreciate any help on this and, as always, really appreciate your time in helping me out.

Have a great day/evening all!

BTW most Tele wiring harnesses have 250k pots and .047 caps. Some people prefer using .022 caps and some like the 500k pots better.

If your pickups end up sounding to schrill/ice picky/too much treble, then you'll need to change the cap or pots.

Pickups will sound different in every guitar they go in, so it can be a bit of a guessing game sometimes.

Then I really hope they sound decent or I'm sticking with one pickup lol. I have wired each pickup to the solderless connectors one at a time and held them over a guitar's strings to test and they did sound fine. With what you said about the body affecting the sound I guess there's no way of knowing ahead of time. I'm going to make two pickup spaces in the body and if it doesn't sound great then, like you said, try and fix it from there by changing pots or caps.

Wish me fortune! :o)

Good luck to you. If you need to change a cap or pots later, it's no big deal. Just more soldering practice.

Thanks again Paul. I'm hoping for success first time around lol. We shall see though. Got to build the guitar first! :o)

I just had a 2:30am thought (crazy, and probably dangerous, I know lol). The bridge pickup is going on a metal bridge plate for telecaster pickups as standard issue telecasters do. With the bridge pickup ground being in contact with the bridge/saddle/ashtray thingy (technical word honest) anyway, do I still need to snip the plate ground and tape it off at the pickup plate end?

Yes you have to separate the coil ground wire from the plate ground so it can be wired to the neck pickup for series wiring. If the pickup's plate is getting it's ground through the Tele bridge plate, then adding another ground wire isn't needed. I just mentioned the wire because I wasn't aware of your bridge plans. The pickup's plate and the bridge plate do need to be grounded by some means.

Your goal is to isolate the bridge pickup's coil from ground so that the signal will flow through to the neck pickup coil to ground to complete a circuit Does that help?.

That helps, Paul, thanks for explaining more. I remember circuits from school though I don't remember much about them other than there needs to be a path for the current to flow down. Much appreciated! I'll be sure to follow your guidance to the letter!

Got the neck stripped and sanded down and then attached to the guitar body today. My first time using a router. Not pretty but much easier. Just need to refine the router skills now.

Hope you had a good day? Thanks again Paul :o)

Thanks, Paul, A LOT! Those are really clear instructions so even I should be able to follow them. I'm a total electronics novice so this help really is greatly appreciated. I'd be lost without this! Thanks again and have a great day.

Your welcome. The more you do, the easier it will become.

Just don't try to wire your house yet! ;)

LOL no danger of me trying anything so bold! I follow diagrams when I have to wire a plug! ;o)
