Hi everyone - long time no me! I have moved to Derby and as I have been diagnosed with something jolly nasty and terminal I doubt I'll be playing live again and certainly not rocking it up with CBG's. I will be hanging on to my 2 string but the time has come to part with the rest. There are 2 acoustic instruments and the rest are electric. If there are any newbies who would like them to learn on or any oldies who fancy them as a job lot for free, please contact me and you can arrange collection - DE21 postcode area. Cheers, Bryan
I agree with what has been said about eBay,given up trying to sell there. Now only sell by recommendation and in Haslams art gallery in Hexham. The owner Ben is a very good guitarist so is able to demo far better than I ever could.
As for buying on eBay you do take a huge risk.Against my better judgement I bought two guitars recently.I think I've been extremely lucky with these beauties.
Bear in mind that im a real newcomer to this, but i would have to be looking at starting at around £150 & go up from there, im lucky in that due to my previous trade i have a lot of good timber stocked up much of it collected over many years, much of it is recycled old stuff that i couldnt bear to get rid of! I think there will be a few of us looking at the prices with interest! One thing i learnt long ago as a boatbuilder, there is absolutely no point in undercutting everyone else, you only end up with all the work nobody else wants. It is a balancing act.
I dont like buying anything of ebay & no way i would buy something as personal as a guitar off there. Its a race for the bottom in more ways than one. As for prices? You see CBG@S on ebay anywhere from £30 to £75 to £150, I suspect unless a builder has a production line going with a standardised product you wont make any money at all from building them even at the highest of those figures. What timber is in it, what box, what parts, are the parts custom, homemade or bought in. Transport, packaging if you are sending them out, overheads, accountants bills! Arrrghhh! None of us can compete with a factory in the far east paying its workers a few quid a day. What does it sound like? it might look horrible but if it sounds wonderful someone will want it. The inverse also applies. If you want a unique guitar you will find one.
In my case im a boatbuilder who had to pack that trade in due to long term injury, Building instruments is something i can still do & i can still think maybe im not quite on the scrap heap just yet!
I've no accurate idea what prices the other people are charging for guitars, but I'm sure there will be some 4 and 6 strings knocking about. eBay is a real hit and miss affair for buying cigar box guitars...I think you need to have some luck, as there are very few well-established makers on there. You'll have a lot more chance of getting something you like by dealing face to face with people.
Couldnt remember the name, but we are staying at the Redwings hotel, its an ex premier inn, reviews from dreadful to excellent, part of lifes rich tapestry no doubt!
