1. What is your favorite slide?

  2. How many do you have?

  3. What slide material do you favor?

  4. What material do you not like so much?

5. Do you have in slide technique advice?

Pinky finger: my fave, a tapered Dunlop brass.    Ring Finger, 1B.  A ceramic by Dave Lynas -which I like better on some songs.   Badfinger a bottle neck from my friend, the Maddog.     Pointer finger, a big socket HEAVY!    Thumb- I really like a shot glass for a lap diddley.

Best technique advice I got from Chickenbone John.   Good body and guitar posture.   Slide flat over the strings (parallel to strings).    Drag the index fingers over the strings to reduce slide and fret rattle.

My own best advice:  Keep that slide moving for vibrato and that human voice sound - don't just hold it over the 5th (or any) fret once you get there.  Keep it moving.  (I need to be better at this).

If you are sliding to the 5th fret from open,  start the slide at about the 3rd - about 2 frets before the destination fret.

my go to slide  is a glass medicine bottle , they seem perfect for me .

next fav  is  my  carved bone witch slide from randy .

My favorite is a stubby glass slide that is tapered inside. I just got a brass slide with a ball end that is a close second.

My tip for slide is to bend your finger inside the slide for grip so it doesn't fall off.

I was parcel to using a glass slide til it broke. Then I used a steel slide that I made from a diesel starter drive(used to rebuild starters and alternators)and now I prefer the steel.

Question one. A thin walled glass slide. Very easy to control over any string hight. Down side, it breaks easily.

Question two. I have two of those. Like seven or eight others. Metals, heavy glass and the like.

Question three. Glass.

Question four. Ceramic. Two heavy.

Slide technique. Let the string do the talking. A slide is there to tell the string where to vibrate from. It should never be pushed down into the strings.

Good answers and purty slides, yours especially, Pick.

Cause, that string thing makes sense.

Rick so does bending that slide finger to keep on the slide.   I have that slide getting away problem unless the fit is really good.   My tapered brass Dunlop (you can choose from several sizes) and my Dave Lynas both fit great.

Paul, that is why I take a brass slide when I leave home to play.   I had a really pretty ceramic slide, red and blue that I had in my pocket one day on a trip to see the Maddog.   Reached in the pocket to get it and .....   you can guess the rest.

PS:  Addendum or something.   I tried some copper fittings from the hardware store and they were too grabby on the strings.   I see some guys have polished the copper.  Maybe that makes them slide better.

I made a crude bone slide and I have long admired Randy Bretz's slides.    But I don't like the feel of the bone on string.  Some folks sure do.   Now I find out Randy has or can make a brass and bone combination.   I am tempted.  I am cheap....   But I did contact him about one.

I haven't had the pleasure, actually, but I think I'd choose the water slides at Citta del Mare, Italy. Not the tallest, fastest or scariest in the world, but probably one of the most scenic and just plain fun without losing one's pranzo (lunch).

Pranzo sounds bella.

Nice box, nice slides.  I like the red tone bar front left.

1. My favorite slide is scrap 3/4" copper pipe. It's cheap (free), not too slippery, has a little "bite" on the strings, can be made any length, and matches the ethos of CBG.
2. I have about 7 of these-all varying length-scattered around my house,in pockets, etc.
3. I like copper, brass, glass, old lipstick covers, but I do like copper best.
4. I've broken too many glass slides to be comfortable with them.
I'm no big deal player, but play alot and you'll get better. Play with other people and watch and learn and have fun.
