I used to use Windows Live Movie Maker, but with the new Windows 10, it doesn't seem to be supported?  I bought a decent plug-in USB mic, which absolutely no longer works with this software.  Suggestions?  I'm not looking to make anything 'epic', just editable clips to feature my awesome CBG skills!  ;-)

Thanks!

Hands down for ease and price and quality, use Sony Vegas, the basic one "Movie" studio

it has a one moth trail free download, I have used everything under the sun, it not the best, but the best for ease of use and quality, it also is similar to Windows, you will like it a lot, Its about 80 bucks...you don't nedd the pro version, just the basic one is far beterre than windos and keep you busy with lots of fun...John

I edit video (and photos) for a living. I'm a Windows user and have tried virtually every editor on the market. Here's my 2 cents:

The "best" free software is Lightworks by a mile. Sadly, it's also probably the hardest to learn. It's designed for super power-users and Hollywood movie editors. Skip it and save yourself the grief.

DaVinci Resolve is really nice too (and free) and also extremely difficult to master. I've used it some for about a year now and still have to scratch my head some. Not for the quick video maker. Skip it too.

You can also skip all the $50 programs on the market with free trial downloads. They're toys.

I do like the Vegas Studio idea. It's a good editor and not too expensive. Should have enough features to keep you working for quite a while.

Alternatively, look into Adobe Premiere Elements. It's a stripped-down version of the industry standard. Similar in capability to Vegas Studio, but a totally different work environment. If you already speak Adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc), you'll pick it up quickly.

I have no idea why Microsoft (or anyone else for that matter) can't make a decent cheap/free editor for Windows. The Mac guys have iMovie and it works just fine for simple stuff.

Best of luck!

Wow!   Thanks guys!   I think this might help several folks on here.  I'll keep you posted on whatever I try!

Yup, it helped me too!

me too, just downloaded filmora... will see if i can work it..

Here are a couple more thoughts...

You can do simple trimming and very basic editing inside your Android phone... which is super handy if you shot it with your phone in the first place. Also upload directly to Youtube or upload through the Youtube app. Assuming similar features on iPhone.

Speaking of Youtube, you can also do some decent editing and basic audio stuff in the Youtube Creator Studio. Just upload your clip or clips, then join/trim/edit, add titles, notes, links and even audio before publishing. It's not a thing of beauty, but it does work.
