If you've never ventured into electronics, but always wanted to make your own guitar pedal, then this video is for you.  The guys at DIYguitarpedals created this ultra-easy tutorial using the least amount of parts possible.

Parts needed:

  • MPSA13 Transistor
  • 10K Resistor
  • 100nf Film Capacitor (code will be 104)
  • 2.2uf Electrolytic Capacitor
  • 1n4148 or 1n914 Diode

That's it.  Get a soldering iron and you'll be crankin' leads to Blue Cheer songs in no time.

Aussie boy..lol

been following this guy for a while now. he also sells premade circuit boards for various effect pedals

I've built a few of these...easy squeezy lemon peazy...and they sound great.

Same parts as listed above, Scott?

Yes, same parts. Made my first with a kit from the diystompbox gentleman in Australia. Think it was about $7 for the pcb board and capacitors/resistors/diode.

After that, I just wired up a few clones.

The stomp switch and potentiometers, I already had in stock/shop.

I tested them with a Kalamazoo model 1 tube amp clone that I built last year.

When engaged and with volume/drive pot set low, there is a notable volume increase with a bit of distortion/fuzz. crank it to 12 o'clock and it gets busy...dial it up to max and it is wicked.

The box shown above is one of two that I made from leftover blocks of sapele mahogany, with a birds eye maple top.

nice pedal box scott...

Thanks Timothy...I have two of these.

Scott, im newbie on electronics, can you put a diagram for the plug and volume pot? it will be great!

http://www.diyguitarpedals.com.au/shop/boms/7_Min_Fuzz.pdf

This link is the diagrams and details of the 7 minute fuzz pedal. Most of the info is relative to the pre-etched circuit board and parts available through diystompboxes.com.au

But if you're building from scratch with your own available parts, this is document is very helpful.

For bass guitar players, there is also a section here that shows how to modify this circuit to make a bass guitar fuzz, but switching the capacitors for higher values.

Does this work with piezo-electric inputs or just the standard electric guitar pickups?

Piezo or electric will work through the circuit.

It'll probably feedback like a banshee. Distortion is best on mag pickups

It sounds more like a distortion effect rather than a "fuzz" tone. Looks easy though.
