Just got some parts arrived for my next build which is a VW Hubcap guitar.
The pickup I am going to fit is a single coil (sized) twin rail humbucker. Which comes with wiring that I'm not familiar with, I suspect the extra wires are for out of phase switching, but my knowledge of wiring is sketchy and limited.
My question is that my desired setup is this one pickup, with a volume and tone controls, and in and out of phase switching either by a switch or with a push pull pot.
First I really need a circuit diagram, bearing in mind that I'm not au fait with wiring symbols, and also to know wether 250 or 500k pots will be best, and will any capacitor be required and if so include this in the schematic.
I want a deeper sound with bite rather than a trebly jangle, and I will be placing the pickup in the neck position.
By the way for any of you who know of me, re the operation I had last October which unfortunately caused me to have no feeling in my right hand, I got a phone call this morning to confirm the operation date to hopefully God willing put it right, will happen on the 22nd of November, so fingers crossed.
Hope someone can help, as I have all the components for this build coming this week and I would love to get it sorted before going into hospital. I have attached a picture of the pickup wires, so thanks in anticipation.
Best Wishes

Thanks for that Wayfinder, much appreciated.

From your pic, the red and blue wires twisted together are the end of the first coil and the start of the other coil, leaving white for hot and black and the bare wires for ground. This would be for typical series humbucking mode.

If you want to do a series/parallel or coil tap, then you'll need to disconnect the red and blue wires and wire them to a switch/pot. From what I'm seeing in the pic: white=hot and red would be the end of that coil/ground and the next coil would be blue=hot to black for the end of that coil/ground.

What I would suggest is wiring the pickup to a 4-way selector switch to 1 volume and 1 tone w/cap, then to the jack. Wiring the HB to that switch as 2 singles would be easy and allow you to play either coil separate, both coils together in parallel or both together in series.

Thank for that Paul. I will digest that and figure out the way forward.
Best Wishes Phil

I think I bought the same part, one pre-wired and one just the pickup. Here is the wiring diagram, hopefully without errors. I was wanting to split the coils of an old Epiphone humbucker and use this wiring.
