I have seen so many different guitar styles since joining this site. I dunno if its been asked before, but my question is this;

Other than a requested design, what makes you build that particular build? Do you ask for design ideas?

Do you build around box? Do you design and build your own box? Do you build the same ones over and over or do you build something different each time?

Here's my take. So far I built my first one with the idea of using an old doublehumbucker I had "laying" around. Having already purchased a random collection of ten boxes, I looked at each box and saw an idea.

Some became guitars, some amps.

I personally build around an idea that pops into my head. Once there, I have to create it.

The most recent is called Frog's Leg's (Blues Frog that is..)

I had a build idea, which I decided to double and call the twins.

The resulting long winded story, ends in me me coming up with what I call "Frog's Legs"

When I get seriously into something, it doesn't shut off when I go to sleep. I have solved many an"issue" in my sleep. With this set of guitars, the design also came while I slept. Can't say its the best idea, but "Frogs Legs" became the design.

So this is what the idea became. I've finished the first one, and will finish the second one soon. It's a twin to the first, but each will have their own sound.

So, what makes you build what you build. Share the idea behind one of your designs, and how it came to be.

Right on man

It's funny but, in my case, the guit takes on a personality of it's own.

The wood I use for the neck has a look and a feel that is unique.  The box is unique even if I have used similar boxes in the past.

Sometimes, it's just what I find laying around.

I have built a "series" of guitars: same box, same neck, same hardware.  They look the same but I have added details that make them all unique.  One was built for a friend from Uganda.  I place a picture of the Ugandan flag inside so you could see it from the sound hole.  My other friend drives a Corvette.  I put a Corvette emblem in the sound hole.

That's one of the things I love about this hobby.  Each guit is a new experience!

Thanks for going through the design process with us. I come up with solutions sometimes in the shower or after waking up.

Wow, that's green. Could you post some sound samples?

"Wow that's green"

Funny, that's what my brother said. Of course being Frog's Legs, they're supposed to be.

I plan to have a comparison video of the two of them when I finish the second one. Seeing as how I'm still out of town, it'll probably be next weekend before it happens.

Frogs legs demo

Here's a sample of the sound of the two. I strung them as open "G" and open "D".

Blues frog, my computer won't let me watch the video. We tried on my wife's last night but it wasn't showing up. I'll try again later.

if it doesn't work, i'll make a sound file for you to listen to.

I tried on 3 computers, but no luck. I am not sure why. I do want to hear these guitars, and Ideally see them played.

I'm on a mac. I am a bit leary of the adobe flash player, so I haven't updated it. My wife has the updated version on her 2 macs, and they wouldn't play.

Go to my page, I will have a sound bite uploaded. Hopefully your MAC can play it.

I'm on a mac and can play it just fine. Not sure why you can't. Have you updated your browser? If everything is in place try the free program VLC

Thanks for uploading. My mac won't but my wife's probably will. She is working on it right now, and then we are on the road for about 7 to 8 hours, so I'll try it tonight. I'll hear it one way or another.

I am sure the error is with my mac. I will confess that I am a bit apprehensive downloading any new updates because from what I have seen everything has gotten a bit too intrusive these days. If I had something other than a mac, I would be using something older than Windows 10. While I enjoy some of the benefits of technology, such as making new friends here and learning how to make guitars at a faster pace, the other part of me is wary of a side of it all that makes me want to live more of a solitary life in the mountains like Grizzly Adams.
