A while back I posted on the comments about this nasty little op amp that I built. It has 2 IM386N1 chips and it's a 2 stage amp. It was inspired by the Ruby amp.

Here's a schematic if anyone is interested in building one.

It took a couple of tries to lay it out good and clear. There is software out there to make layouts, but drawing it is cheaper. LOL

I didn't make it clear enough for the input caps. they are on a toggle to switch for Guitar mode .047cap or bass/bass boost mode .1 cap. The cap wires go to both Volume pots so your choice goes to both chips.

And you are seeing the back side of the pots in the schematic.

If you set Volume 1&2 at 10 and Gain 1&2 at 7, you'll get a Fender Champ sound. Up Gain 2 to 10 and it'll be more like a Fender Tweed. Turn the Gains to 10 and the Volumes down for gobs of nasty distortion.

Would it be possible to get photos?

I have done NO electronics work at all but scored a nice box today I can get two 6" speakers in.

Would love to try it but photos would definitely help.

This one looks good as I play bass and have a CBB I want it for.

I'm having a little trouble with the output circuit on this right now. It needs capacitors on both the positive and negative sides to the speaker, but till I get a new speaker that can handle the decibels that the extra gain adds I won't know the right value caps to use.

If your going to use Bass a lot with the amp, you'll want a speaker/speakers that are rated for Bass use. Regular guitar speakers aren't voiced for Bass, but Bass speakers can be used for Bass or Guitar. This is a pic of the guts of a Head that I made for myself that didn't have the output circuit caps. It worked, but had a little hum in the output. The right caps will get rid of the hum and increase the output volume. I should find out what is needed in 2 to 3 weeks.

Electronics have 5 units of measurement: Volts-DC or AC, Amps-what it takes to push current through the circuit AKA resistance, Watts-measure of used current, Ohms-measurement of operational level of current and Decibels-level of sound that isproduced/heard.

Volume/loudness is measured in decibels and every speaker has a output level that is measured in wattage and decibels. Wattage is electrical and decibels is what you hear.

Even though this little amp has low output wattage, the output decibels are high because it's a bridged amp.

The speaker I have is a vintage speaker that works and sounds good under normal use and a decent amount of decibels. It'll work fine for a single chip amp, but this dual chip/bridged amp puts out more than this old speaker can handle. So that's why I need to order a new speaker and when it get here I'll be a happy camper.

Working on getting a video set up so I can demo this Badboy.

Electronics can be confusing, but once you get your head in the door it all starts to make sense.

Thanks for the pic. Watched some vids too last night. Seems fairly simple but always daunting taking on that first project.

I was just going to use speakers from an old ghetto blaster that's been in the basement for years.

My bass is very short scale and adg strings. Either way I have some gits too :)

(I have bass amps, but playing on the street with a homemade one would be cool)

 thnx again

Those speakers won't last long with a guitar or bass, but subwoofers from a car stereo or home surround sound system will. Most of them are rated a 4ohm, but the 386 chips are rated at 6ohm to 8 ohm. If you wire 2 of them in series, you'll be fine.

This is actually the stereo I have, funny I just came across it looking for speakers on ebay.

It's dual cone with bass boost???

Do you think 2 of these would work well? Cheapest I can find, don't want to spend much :D

Also looking at this for an amp

 Thanks Wayfinder,

I'm going to start a thread on this project and try to piece something together :D
