Christmas 2014 will be here before you know it !

Shane Speal and Dan Sleep have organized the Christmas album in previous years, Dan asked me if I would like to help co-ordinate it for this year!

For any of the new folks here on the Nation, we have compiled an annual album of songs played, composed and sung by our members.

The primary requirement is that the recording be of good quality, for example, If you are singing, we want to be able to hear your voice!

The 2009 Christmas album contained 23 songs, 2010 Christmas contained 40 songs, 2011 contained 18 songs. More songs is not necessarily better, we had

less in 2012 but all the submissions were amazing!, 2013 drew 39 amazing songs, we really don't have a limit on the number of songs we can include.

There has been a tremendous response to CB Nation Christmas album submissions in previous years, let's top this year off with with a

CRACKER CHRISTMAS ALBUM!

You can submit a cover of a traditional non copyrighted song, or ideally you can do something you wrote/composed yourself.

Please respond in this thread if you would like to participate!

...and include the song that you would like to have included in the album. Once we have the final album compiled, it will be posted as a free download, and anyone will be able to download it. So, you will be able to pass the links along to your friends and family!

Members' names and songs will be published here on this header,

completed MP3 files can be emailed to me at....

I've done a few of these now and and I can tell you there's absolutely no ego involved. The request, call it a requirement, for quality recording needn't mean you go into a studio or even use professional gear, it's just trying to get tunes that are as listenable as possible because in the end people will want to listen to them. In the past some of have been made with one microphone, even a smartphone recording if you can place it well. It's more about making some effort in the recording than making it studio quality.

If you choose not to participate then that's fine but it's not Steve's fault.

I'm a total newb with only one keeper built.  I haven't yet finished number two as I don't have a lot of time to build.  However, I have been around music for some time and have a little studio experience.  I don't have a pro setup at home, but I can get a decent recording and mix.  There are several free programs that you can use to record with (like Audacity) that make it where any of us can have a decent recording with a clear mix.  You can make a quality recording these days without a huge budget or a pro studio.

I have a table top digital recorder (Korg D-3200).  It allows me to multi-track, adjust the EQ, add a few effects (wish it had vocal auto tune), and mix it down.  I have a recording suite on my laptop that I don't have enough processor to use for recording.  However, it has a functional basic mastering program built in that allows you to work track by track or as a whole project.  I have NO experience at mastering.  However, I think that I achieved a really good sound for my first ever recorded CBG song.  I even think that I kept it rootsy enough by adding unusual percussion instruments like a bucket.  I am not saying all of this to toot my horn.  I just wanted to show that it doesn't take much to get a great sound.  If it is just you and your CBG, getting clarity could work with a single mic placed right.  If you want a fuller band sound like I went with, you will need to find a way to multi-track and mix.  Look for low cost or big cost solutions.  If we raise the bar with our recordings, our craft will attract more attention.

I've never rejected anything through poor recording, some just need a little cleaning up, many members on here are used to making recordings, some are not and confine their activities to building, we are all learners here, we organise many album projects open to beginners and experienced performers alike, many produce their very first recordings here, none will get rejected by me, I was a beginner when I started so I know how difficult it is at first, no one expects professional recordings, just try and do your best!  Merry Christmas and hope you can submit a song next year!:-)

Steve, Each year you make a great work with this christmas album i love that gift !

I can say here something... each time, each guy who wanted to participate, tried to record their songs as nicely as he could... it's not easy... but for example if one of my songs was not realy correct (about words used, quality of my voice) i knew i had to accept to be rejected... But it didn't happen... i'm still learning playing and singing...  i didn't play my ego LOL... i try to play CBGuitar and only for Christmas i try to sing... and share many experiments...

Many thanks again Steve !

Merry Christmas...+<[:-) [+++]==={...

That's a Christmas compilation

Uncle Tainty, I'd have to agree with Patrick. A quality recording is one you can hear what's important. The voice and any instruments played. Where the overall sound is clear. Not distorted or muffled. Sorry you missed the deadline. Be awesome to hear your song or songs anyway.

I think your reading into the detail a bit too far
Words on here have no expression in here

But people prefer to listens to tracks without too might
Hissssssss and distortion
Steve is saying just do your best or try harder than usual
so it all sounds as slick as possible.

We never turned away a guitar track
for the Stones album as it wasnt a CBG!

Chill bro get busy and send something
In with the time you are using criticising
as its wasting your time.

Nothing on here is ever designed to upset people
It's the way You interpret it..

Get busy as we all want to hear it now ;>)
P.s that list above is looking awesome
I recon this album is going to be the best album to date...
Nice work chaps...

...just need to finish my song now *blush*

Hey, when's this baby gonna be ready for download?  I am itching to hear it!  Wasn't the deadline yesterday?

in the next couple of days Chris - lot of work to do! ;-)

Great job done by all!...Two thumbs up!
