i use sony vegas pro 10 for mixing stuff up. it's a video editor but the audio production tools are nigh on identical to the soundforge program, minus a few exotic filters.

if we put out the tracks unleveled, you'd constantly be turning the volume up and down - there was a difference of 28db between some songs:)

no offense intended from my end merle........mastering seems to be a "black art" in what i've learned so far.

i certainly enjoyed the chance to be part of the project and certainly hope they continue....

Its not easy to take 25 recording from around the world, recorded on who knows what and make them sound the same. Some recording software come with mastering suites like Studio One. You can get into this kind of recording with a interface for less the $300. It will do what Pro Tools does for thousands of dollars less . All these interfaces come with software but you need to upgrade to get the mastering software another $149. I can't say enough good things about the Presonus interfaces. And I do not work for them.

Fancinating stuff there is such diversity on the recording
front.
I have also been playing with valve pre amps
For the Mic as a valve mic is hughe money.
I know Bemusic uses them for warmth on her sound.
I found they don't help latency, so you need 2
To lay it down all at once.
Will be going back to this method to try again soon.
You can just use a simple record software
With this and process later with some reverb.
Dam sight cheaper than a valve mic.
Got mine off eBay for way under 50
Guitar sounds quite nice through it too

So I feel way behind in this whole recording thing. I just turn on my mic and record it into a cheap 4 track that gets it into my computer. I mix with acidpro 7 using a couple things to make it sound as live as possible. Not much by way of multi tracking. I usually am happy if it sort of sounds like what I sound like playing in my living room.
