hello
I am interesting in spending a bit of time learning the craft of the luthier

I wish to build cigar box type instruments, but with custom boxes made to my desires. I believe I may make the 2x4 bass, out of a 2x6 I have.

Ultimately, I want a nice 2 String Bass (30" ?) and a 3 String Guitar (24" ?). Id like to be able to play the bass with a simple bow. I can also see a bass that can be played standing up with a bow...

I am also making some linear cmos synthesizers and sequencers, I intend to make speaker boxes for those and incorporate similar concepts. One of the sequencers will have a line in, I can plug into and use as a small amplifier, relegating the rest of the machine to providing a drum track. The line in would have some basic effects, distortion, chorus, reverb. I am interested in primarily electronic music (techno) with some classical influences from a bass, guitar or other stringed instruments for a classical sound. Think Kashmir by led zepplin. I really enjoy the southern gothic sound of slim cessna's auto club and 16 horsepower, o'death and the like. Thus, Im drawn to the simple, homemade instrument styles of cigar box guitars, basses, violins and bows.

any book, or site, on making guitar/harpsichord/instrument bodies?

First off, welcome.

Take a look around. You have at your disposal a wealth of people who can probably directly answer specific cbg questions. Take a look at the various forums. There is at least one dedicated to building your own boxes and various forums dedicated to cbg electrification in one form or another.

I got into this about two years ago now as a frustrated wannabe luthier. People have patiently answered my questions and hopefully, I have been able to help some others. I came looking for information and found a helpful and supporting community.

Enjoy and go make stuff.

Yes, welcome storyteller
