Here is a short vid of my lap steel. If you use C-6th tuning, you will need C-6th strings. I got mine from Elderly Instruments. They are LAP C6 015-017-022-026-DY30-DY36.
string gauges are very different from standard - you'll need a C6 specific set.
on a 6-string...low to high C E G A C E - .036w to .015 or similar.
It is an awesome tuning though and capable of way more complex licks than the open major chord tunings. I have my '48 ricky strung to this, and it's sweet as.
If anyone has never tried a set of C 6th strings on a lap steel, You gotta try it. It the old Texas swing sound sound and EASY to play. I'll post a vid tomorrow of my Dewight lap steel. Late 1950's model.
Thanks Ronnie. I am going to get my grand doughter to help with a video soon,
Great job James. If you upload a video let us know.
Also, forgot to say, check him out on the vid of him at Rob's flat, hear that guitar sing as he slides them strings! BEAUTIFUL!
Jabes, I live in Brighton, I see that geezer on North street just below the pound shop and the 99p shop quite often, he's a nice bloke and plays real well, I hope he does good with his you tube account, he deserves it! There's another young lad who's usually playing by the theatre Royal near Brighton Pavilion, he's an excellent slide guitar player, just a young pup in his early twenties, guess being 65 myself anyone under 50 is a young pup!
