Nation, I want to make a CD of my best 10 -15 songs.   I just want to have that 'record' and would give some away.   I am not tech smart.   I am cheap.   I am looking for a simple system that can give me decent results for under $200.   Tips?

Yes, you can. You have a computer, obviously. Does it have a CD or DVD player / burner? If the player doubles as a burner, you can insert a blank CD; a blank CD may or may not need to be formatted. Windows Music Player, Roxio, Nero and a host of other software can do this: format CD for either music or data, then copy your song files to the open CD window, then burn them to the CD. You may want to use read / write CD blanks (CD-RW), until you get the hang of it. They are a little more expensive. Or you can go straight to CD-R (read only; once burnt can't go back and change anything. They make great drinks coasters if you eff one up). A can of 20-50 blank CDs will run you from $5-20; I tend to use Imation CDs.

You can purchase a separate USB external DVD burner, which will also work with CDs, for anywhere from $20-100 at Best Buy.

Here's a coupla how-to:

Hi John it's simple - i use Nero and a CD burner and just transfer the WAV files into the program and burn the disc. i also use the printable discs CD-R and my Canon Pixma can print them. (-:

Hey John, how are your songs recorded? Are they all in the form of YouTube videos? I think its possible to extract audio from YouTube and save it as an mp3, then you could burn it to a cd. Net cost (if you have a cd writing drive) would be the cost of the blank discs :-)

Ashampoo Burning Studio 2013

Should still be available and if not then the Ashampoo Burning Studio Free is available from the Ashampoo website.

I highly recommend either for your purposes. The interfaces are simple and clear. The results are of good quality.

The free program Format Factory can be used to prepare your files in bulk for burning. It is also simple to use.

Note: Format Factory is ad supported now so care must be taken during install to avoid the additional junkware.

The above are for Windows.

Unc, are you talking about a cheap way to record the songs, or a cheap way to produce cds of songs you've already recorded?

I looked at Mixpad on youtube and it looks simple enough.   Yet I am slow to learn tech stuff.  What would need to give it a go?   Headphones and a mic?   and what mic?

John,

It's beginning to sound like you want to record, as well as burn CDs. We need some more info. You can use your PC as a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). You could use Audacity (Free!), which is quite powerful, to record MP3s on your computer hard drive. You need a decent USB mic to get beyond the limitations of a computer condenser mic (https://www.ezvid.com/toptenusbmicrophones) - I've used both the Yeti and the Snowball successfully. You may want a decent set of headphones, that cover your ears comfortably, but I do quite well with SkullCandy earbud phones.

If you want to simply rip the audio track from your vids, you can use Audacity for that, too. I have done that, using several of the editing features in Audacity on both my video rips and my audio recordings; I do my final mix using Audacity as well.

Tell us precisely what else it is you want to do, if it's beyond just copying existing MP3 files and burning them to CD / DVD; you've got plenty of info for that.

this is exciting !!  put me down for two Tio John.  make sure the snake that got popped in the head with a hoe song is on there . !! cant wait to hear this adventure
