Hi everyone im Loco,

I started this Group to get Canadian CBG builders together and to bring in new Canadians into this Revolution. If you got any questions let me know I will help as much as I can.

Loco

Toronto,On.

Hello Loco,

Reeds Taylor here. If your ever driving thru Sudbury, you'll more than likely find me in the front yard strumming on my yard toy. It has a 20" scale with no pick up, and tuned too GDg.

I also made this little gem....

Hi Reeds!

Sorry but I'm back up and running again. For sure ill swing by if I'm every up in those ways. Love the CBG's. Good work. I'm planning on making my first CBG and might need some wisdom. I have only made CBU 's so far.

If you need help Loco, just ask...i'm always around somewhere.

Farmer Ted here,

Been building cbgs for 5 years. I have expanded my builds to solid body, strum sticks, lapsteels, license plate reso's, and walking stick basses.

I am in Nova Scotia, near Antigonish.

I started building about a year ago. I had always wanted to build guitars, but the budget wouln't stretch for all the equipment. I ran into gbg's on line, probably here and was enthralled. I've built 15 now. they are all fretted. I like 4 strings. I built a 6 and a 12 string prototype last year. I am going to go back to the 6 strings as soon as it is warm enough to work in the garage. I was able to,pick up a cheap band saw, so I can take a stab at,tapered necks.

I'm in Barrie

Over the winter i've been kinda sorta teaching myself a bit about electronics. I got one good preamp built and I built 3 little kit amps. I'm working on a Ruby amp right now. I've altered to specs on the input stage to make it higher impedance for piezo discs. We will see how that turns out

Hello! My name is Joe Caruso, I live in Woodbridge. I just finished my first CBG and am started on my second. I got started wierd - my wife saw me looking at an electric guitar kit and started to chastise me for taking the risk of spending a couple of hundred for a kit that may turn out to be junk. So I thought (but didn't say)  I'll show her, I'll build one from scratch out of a Cigar Box. I cannot recall at all how I first heard about CBGs, but so glad I did. I love to do woodworking and was getting bored making kiddy toys out of wood. I've managed to marry my music and woodworking hobby and am thrilled. In the process re-organized my workshop for building CBGs, not wooden toys.

My first CBG, because I had trouble getting a cigar box, was built from a craft box from Michaels. The sustain is amazing, I have been told by other guitar players. I've since sourced a few cigar boxes and now have a few relatives heading down south to the Caribbean and Mexico, and guess what I asked them to bring me back??? CIGAR BOXES!!! I've provided photos of what I am after.

Glad to see there is a Canadian corner here, just logged in, looking forward to swapping info on sourcing good wood - a challenge. So far, using oak for the body, and oak or poplar for the fingerboard. Hardware from CB Gitty. Tried some tuners from dx.com, workable but not thrilled with the quality. Later....

On build #4 right now. Started about a year ago with building after I bought a 3 string and thought I could do a helluva lot better job.....strangely, I was correct. 1st build was a 4 string reso using a Michaels craft box, then did a 4 string cookie can, the a cookie can bass to p-bass specs and now my 1st REAL CBG. Might just leave this fretless for a fun git.

I used the Michael's craft box too - worked very well. Went back to get a few more and the quality was pathetic, really lousy wood, unfortunately. Hope it was an exception and not permanent.

I used the Michaels boxes for a lot,of builds. When I started, they sold Darice boxes. They are pretty good quality. For a small box they have a really nice sound. Michaels here in Barrie anyway, changed to another manufacturer. The boxes were warped in many cases and not as well built.

You can get Darice boxes on line. I just started making my own boxes instead.

Hello from out on the currently sunny but usually Wet Coast. Nice to see a Canadian group forming up here. Will keep watching this space. M
