I've used Goo Gone successfully to remove labeling. It is a citrus based product and works well especially if the label is stuck to a hard or glossy surface. Try it first in an area that won't show or on a box you don't care about. I haven't used it to remove a label that is stuck to a bare wood surface, like a Las Cabrillas box. It might darken the wood.  Again try it where it won't show.

You could do the same experiments using steam, just don't get things too wet.

Hey Beartown john, you can try a blow dryer to soften the glue then remove the sticker. Use lighter fluid to remove glue residue. I've never tried it but I've heard a product called "Goo Be Gone"  or something like that also works to soften the glue so you can remove the sticker.

Sprung for the forsner bit, it worked great. Used my daughters glue stick for the damaged paper. Thanks again for the help.

I made something like this to cut out soundholes on ukes

http://www.amazon.com/1057028-CMP-3-Rotary-Circle-Cutter/dp/B001CEA...

I used an xacto clamped by a screw in a piece of hardwood with a 1/4" dowel for the pivot. Works great on paper but kinda tough on spruce.

Thanks for all of the great responses and ideas. The paper/art on the lid is pretty fragile so I'm leaning towards the x-acto for this round and have to go buy the tools mentioned.

Holes on the side? :) this box is a Moonshine Crooks also.

One more question, the paper is beginning to peel from the cardboard. Any suggestions on a glue or adhesive to keep it all together?

Pics coming soon! Thanks again guys!

I kind of agree with Mr Dog on the need for sound holes. I have put them on the side and bottom edge on a couple of builds just to keep a nice top looking clean. I have a very nice Moonshine Crooks box I have built and I don"t want to cut up the top, so I am not going to use sound holes. If it doesn't sound "right" I will put them somewhere out of the way.
