After 5 builds and giving/trading them away I found myself without a 3 stringer so I though I'd make another. A few weeks back I helped my neighbor re-prime his well and out of the corner of my eye while in his garage I noticed a vintage no trespassing poster and he gave it to me. I had this solid wood Freud router bit box(from Italy) and it's a perfect size for my build. I let the thing build itself and this is what I came up with. Please note the cork volume knob and the internal cork slide/pick holder. While playing the pick cork goes into the hole where the slide is stored.
I still need to lower the action a little but she plays great as it is. THIS ONE i'M KEEPING! Let me know what you think.
This is what it sounds like...

Sweet. Looks like a keeper to me. Enjoy. Happy Holidays.
Nice! I love that slide/pick holder idea. I think I'd be keeping that build too...
Yea, I would keep that one myself. Good job!
There's nothing I don't like about this build. Same for the photography, it all goes together perfectly! Great work.
Great looking build - and nice picture composition! One thing - your tuners need to be flipped. The worm gear sits further from the body than the spur gear.
Huntz
Sweet looking build..Not too sound critical, but your machine heads are backwards.(its from experience I speak when I say, turn them around or the will fall apart, or start skipping when tuning)
Thanks for the possitive comments guys. I really appreciate it. Yes, I will turn the tuners around(damn rookie mistakes!). I knew something didn't look right about them.
I made several other screw-ups during this build including drilling a fret marking dot in the wrong place which is why I thought that I'd drill the rest of the minor fret markers out and fill them with a dark dot so that it kinda looks intentional. I also should've picked a straighter piece of oak for the neck because it has some backbow that is fighting me to correct.
Back to those tuners...I just realized that I'll have to fill screw holes and sand the impression marks of the tuners. I rushed this build too much trying to get it done fast in a cold garge shop. Lessons learned I guess. My next one will be a reso 4 stringer for a change but don't tell my wife ;{)
Thanks Stewy. I'm correcting that error today. It'll look kinda goofy but hey, whatcha gonna do? I'll make a whole new new and correct all the errors when I can find some extra time and energy. I probably have 8 hours into the neck and dread having to but I won't be happy with it until I do. For now, I'll just play the damn thing.
Awesome. Woody Guthrie would have loved it!
i likey !!
Yup, I like this one too. A keeper for sure since it plays well. Huntz is right about the tuners -at least for future builds. Gears should be downward - toward the box. They are a bit more stressed as you have them - but could maybe hold up fine.
