Hi Folks, This is the group to share everything about the three string guitar.
If you have had problems in the past playing regular guitar, try playing a three string guitar, they are much easier and the have a vintage sound that is super unique and easy to capture that old school blues sound.
There is another website on the net that has a lot more 3 string guitar information. Here is the link to the website 3-string-guitar.com

When I decided to make a bottle neck slide I had information on scoring the bottle and then using hot and cold water to cause the bottle to break. With many long necked wine bottles having a screw top, 2 cuts need to be made with (in my case disasterous results. The best results I have had (100%) is using a tile cutting blade in my hacksaw. The bkade is a peice of wire with carborundum glued to it. I just sawed through the neck in 2 places and smoothed the end with needle nosed pliers and wet/dry carborundum. No more than 10 minutes
The Indian Tabac vid with wooden tuners is great, Wade!
(you didn't wear your signature shades & hat, though!)
Did you get a 7degree reamer for doing the peg holes?
(I always wondered abt getting one of those. :-) )

Finger or Slide?.....I am still a complete 'newbie' and am trying to learn how to play....so I am strumming, picking, using a slide, and finger on fret....and I still suck. (But give me about 4 months and see how I am doing! <grin>
kieta,
I'm curious.... what was the string diameter difference, string to string.... and did you change the tuning? Finally, please, scale length and fretted or fretless, finger or slide?
thanks,
Sam
On my first two CBG builds, I used the 5,4,3 strings. Then I got John McNair's DVD on "HowToPlayTheCBG". Even though it is a great DVD for learning the basics on how to "play" the CBG, he also has really good information on types of Slides and a really neat "Pearl-Of-Wisdom" about using the 4,3,2 acoustic strings (like he uses as well as Mike Snowden). So I made the switch to 4, 3, 2 and it made all the difference in the world in the way I wanted my CBGs to sound. I am sure the 5, 4, 3 will work just fine for some folks, however.

I am making a 3 string fretless resso with 23" scale lengthwith an olde lowe cone and cover plate and was wonderingwhat the best gauge strings for it ,any idea's.Regards Mal (UK)
I don't remember who told me how to make it by soaking steelwool in cider vinegar then painting the wood (may have been you) Works great, just doesn't show up very well in this pic. The back & sides of the box really look cool, lots of figure. Post some better pics later.
barnwood rocks!
