Hey Neil being a tuba player have you looked into the pvc sax's and clarinets - too cool...you will know when the CBG bug has bitten you when you start mashing other instruments into CBGs....

Just to update you, I am from SA. Adelaide in fact. I am a tuba player and I play with a very diverse group. We have clarinet, button accordian, cornet, alpen horns, euphonium, trombone, keyboard and a few other oddities (I also play some didgeridoo and we have used a wobble board!).
I love to try new instruments and these cbg's get me excited. I will be picking some brains and look forward to your company as I go.

Off topic, but it is "our" 48th wedding anniversary today. I do not know who deserves the medal, she or me! :)
We went out to breakfast! Too old to go out to dinner!!!!!! Then we went to see "Young Victoria" at the local cinema, had an ice cream and toddled off home! :)
Could not wait to get to my Guitar mod, Hurdy Gurdy and found I had glued on the bridge 5mm too short for the fret string length! That is what being old does for you.
Don't fill up the "Nation" comments box with good wishes, I just thought I would let you all know.

BTW I wore the same tie today that I wore at my wedding! I can still get into my tie, the good lady cant get into her wedding dress!!!! :) :)

Hello fellow Aus. persons. I have been looking at cbg's for a couple of weeks and have just built my first (actually a biscuit tin but the principle is the same). I will upload some pics when I can. Would like to build a bass next. Great site btw.

I just uploaded pics of builds 2 through 5. I have 2 more nearly finished and have started collecting materials for another batch. So far each of them has had a distinct, individual sound but all have sounded good. I have some ideas for improvements I want to try on the next batch.

I like the idea of separate fret boards! Never thought of it but I would suggest using the "dowel" method for for fret board markings and slot each keybopard into the protruding dowels.

IU am sure that it will be more difficult than that, but and idea for starters.

Hey lads, just a thought today..
Has anyone tried to make a CBG with exchangable fret boards?
You know so that you can play a dulcimer/ chromatic/ fretless/ indian type scale?
If any group can do it, it has to be us huh. The challenge will be to be able to swap the fretboards without restringing the guitar!!!
Comment by Will Carter on September 9, 2009 at 10:14pm
Honestly I use the cheapest strings I can find as I am always swapping them around and break a few. Currently I am getting packs of daddario lites for $5.
The better teh strings the better the sound however so I would really like to get ELIXIR strings as they really last and last...pricey tho, a frind buys them online for about half the retail price.
