My Google Fu is so weak.  I've been looking for an excellent flat unit (no body curve) for a build.  Can't seem to find a good one, but I know they are out there.  What kind do you all prefer and where do you get them at?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Mikey, in the price range one normally uses for a basic CBG I think the choices may be limited. B-band offer  a small compact Pre amp, but it isn't cheep.

What I do is as shown in the photo. I make a Pre amp surround out of timber, flat on the bottom and shaped to suit the pre amp on top.

Taff

That is sharp looking!  thanks for the idea

Cbgitty has one & it’s flat, Shane even posted a few videos of it

C.B. Gitty has 3 pre-amps but they all have a similar disclaimer in the descriptions:

"Please be aware that the flange (the upper plastic rim/housing that mounts flush against the guitar wall) of this pre-amp does have a bit of a curve to it, so some alteration may be necessary to get it to mount flush against a straight cigar box side."

Yes, and the one you linked to, Brian, is actually exactly the same as the one on Taffy's guitar.

This one is definitely not flat (and trying to force it to become flat is not a good idea - I'm speaking from experience...)

thank you sir

thank you sir!

Violin pre-amps and small, flat and cheap.

Ah! Another awesome idea. thank you

You can get ukulele preamps cheap off eBay with or without a built in tuner.  Usually they have volume, treble and bass controls.

7545r-FLAT is the model you're looking for...

Good info here.  I hate those curvy preamps.  A real PITA to get mounted and never come out looking neat unless you take Taffys approach.  Nice work Taffy.
