  • Thanks Dani and Bear. I feel quite fortunate to be at a point in life where I have the time to work on a few of the things that pop into my head.

  • Mega cool. Love those tuning pegs. Inspiration is a funny critter and can bite out of almost anywhere and sometimes for no reason at all. Don't leave home without it.

Thanks for sharing Jim. You're a talented guy for sure.

  • Oh yeah, I also found he made 12 of these from boxes given to him by a Cigar smoking neighbor.

  • Thanks RTZ. Another member mentioned that it looked like a Kamaka CBU so I started looking and found several Kamakas with that skinny headstock. I'm happy to have unknowingly copied a uke by a wonderful, legendary uke maker like Sam Kamaka! I also found that Bill Jehle has another book about CB Ukes in which he details Mr Kamaka's builds and has a full size drawing and step by step re creation of one of his builds. Yup, it's on my Christmas list. Here's another very similar to the pic you posted. It has the inscription "Aloha Jan 1,2001 Sam Kamaka" in the upper left corner. Hmm, can't get the pic to post- I'll try again soon.

  • Waycool, There is a CBU I think it is believed to be made by Sam Kamaka Jr in the 40's it has this kinda a headstock. found it... I have seen a picture of Sam holding one but it has a normal headstock.

  • Popular Homecraft FiddleThis is the fiddle headstock from Popular Homecraft plans.

  • Thanks Derek. The headstock is very similar to the 1940 Popular Homecraft fiddle I made earler this year. I'm wondering if the uke on the shirt might have come from some plans like that.

  • Love the headstock. Sounds great Jim!

  • Thanks smilingdog.
