D.A. Go for it! I’ve noticed that the bottom of many cigar boxes is thinner and therefore more resonant, so I position the neck accordingly. I use craft (popsicle) sticks to separate the neck from the box at two points. I’ve only done a uke and a 3-string, but am very pleased with both.

Here is an example of a fretted Uncle Crow style CBG plugged in with a piezo under the top. It has 3D printed frets with brad nails inserted in each. A blend of no tech and high tech!
