  • Good info, Ron!

  • Zep, in their defense, were well versed in the blues and who originated them. Their approach was identical to what the original commercial bluesmen did: mix and match verses, steal bits of song from one another. The phrase "squeeze my lemon," which apoears in The Lemon Song and shows up in other live Zep songs, originated from Robert Johnson's "Travellng Riverside Blues." Read Escaping the Delta, The Language of the Blues, Preachin The Blues, The History of the Blues, and two different books called simply, The Blues. And Clapton is probably the consummate living blues musicologist. These guys knew where their roots were, both musically and stylistically. The first two Zep albums actually do credit Willie Dixon and others; later tunes like The Lemon Song are pastiches, just like many of the commercial blues from the 20's.
  • Vinnie,  maybe come back to this and give us vocals?

  • Yah, sir.   Good job,  Good to see and hear you.

Thanks to Ron for the history.

I like Zep and Clapton and others, but I would like them more if they would more often try to give credit to the song originators.

Ha, I have a good friend whose family is of Czech ancestry; their name is Mohel (same thing). Used to give me great glee when I directed him singing in our church choir: I always cut him off.
