This is for those beginers out there that don't know how to put together a neck. When I started I thought I needed a band saw and all kinds of fancy tools to just make a headstock. But this video shows how simple it is to make a simple, sturdy neck for cheap. Enjoy

    Many thanks.

  • String tension bow neck? Na.......make sure you have your neck secure and solid, good screws and strong glue....but with a 3 string, I have never had any problem. 6 strings is where you will get into bowing, that is why they have truss rods......clasicial guitars use nylon strings, put on steel, they can't take the tension, and they would fold up on themselves. Use a good solid wood for your neck on your cbg.....oak is what I use, cherry is good.....take a peice of oak and a peice of pine both the same size and hold them in each hand....you will tell the diference right of hand, the pine is not as hard and heavey, and they oak is good and solid. I like necks that go all the way through my cbgs, for the simple reason if you use a cigar box, you don't have to drill holes in the lid for strings, just use the neck that travels on through. Drill holes at the end of the neck and you are set....check out my license plate cbg pics for examples,.....good luck and happy building.
  • Very cool,Thanks.I am getting ready to build my first(what I am sure will be a train wreck)cbg. That was some great advise.I have played guitar for 30 yrs.And am going to attempt my first build soon.Just something simple. If I may ask...Does the string tension after it is tuned to pitch bow the neck alot or do you compensate that by angling the neck back during building it to compensate?
