I Gotta Travel On cover by Ron on cigar box guitar

This is an old song I learned from my Dad many years ago and I've been able to remember most of the words. So here I am with my newly built 3 string cigar box guitar tuned A D A and I'm tryin' to play the melody and sing the song at the same time. That's really difficult for me. But then, I always did have trouble tryin' to chew gum and walk at the same time. Playin' standard guitar chords and singin' is much easier but I really like the idea of singin' those old timey country songs and playin' that cigar box guitar. Thank you guys again for helpin' me through my first build.

  • my ma used to sing that song to me great
  • soundin good..very nice.
  • Thank you guys for your kind comments. Sylver, I'll have to measure it when I get home from work. I'm not sure what the measurement is but I can tell you it's too high because down near the body of the guitar I really got to put some pressure on the strings to get'em down to the fretboard. But I can't use a lower bridge because I'm already scrapin' the box when I'm strummin. I know the fix for it but that'll be on my next build. I should have put a fretboard on top of the neck then I could have adjust the bridge and nut for the strings to have a little height at the box.
  • So that will it be a car trip at most, cos nowadays you can't bring your guitar along you whether flying..
Anyway, lovely tune. If you did your guitar, could you tell me, pls what height is the nut. I'm no sure about that...
  • Love it!
