Here's a basic blues riff on my flea market Fender Squier acoustic. I mounted a cheap Strat-type single pup in the sound hole and hooked it up to an inline volume and tone control built in a Treet can. The amp is a used Peavey Bandit 65 with a homemade channel foot switch. The signal is run through a cheap Behringer DD400 delay that's stuck in tap mode.

  • Hey John - I did switch to a set of medium electric guitar strings and it made a big difference.  The overall sound  is much more balanced and a lot brighter.  See ya 'round!

  • Hi Mike,  I found this video of your acoustic with pickup added.  To follow up your comment below, did you ever change to electric strings?  I am using acoustic strings on mine and also note that the bass strings have a different tone than the treble on mine.   I like the difference because it is like two different guitars, but now wonder how much hotter it would be with electric strings.  Thanks John

  • Great...Blues spirit blowing... I love this kind of tone... what tuning are you using in vid ?

    Thanks Mike... °<[:-) [----]==={

  • Good deal James.  I'll bet you will like it!  Here's a link to a picture of the mount.  I mounted the pickup in a piece of plastic I got at the thrift store and then mounted the whole thing in the soundhole. http://www.cigarboxnation.com/photo/pu-mount-2?context=user
  • Thanks for your kind words John.  This has been a fun project and an educational one as well.  See you around the Nation!
  • Wonderful playing and a great sound. Thanks for posting that.
  • WOW, wasn't expecting it to sound like that!!!
  • Thanks James!  You are very kind.Maybe I can get something recorded and posted for you this week playing it clean.  I had too much delay on my attempts tonight and it sounded muddy.  See ya!
  • Thanks for the comment Tophat.  Your play on words has made my day! It gave me a much-needed chuckle.
  • Thanks John.  I am very pleased with this project.  The clean tone surprised me as well.  The next time I go by the music store I'm going to get some electric guitar strings to put on it.  The original acoustic strings seem to be weak in the bass range but that's to be expected with bronze wound strings I reckon.  Good luck with your project!
