Folsom Prison Blues (Johnny Cash Keb' Mo' Cover)

There are a lot of great covers of Folsom Prison Blues, but none reinvents the song more than Keb' Mo's. The most iconic line of the song "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die" was changed to "They say I shot a man in Reno, that was just a lie". In that one line, the song becomes something entirely different. I've got several covers of Folsom Prison blues on my youtube channel, so I decided to put my own take on Keb' Mo's version of the lyrics. Let me know what ya'll think.Gear used:Guitar: "Smokey"Effect: Sabella Studios Spring Reverb tank with TremoloAmp: Fender BassmanCab: Motion Sound SRV-212Guitar Mic: Motion Sound SRV-212 built in microphonesVocal Mic: SM58Camera/Mixer: Zoom Q8

  • Bob. the lyrical changes aren't mine, they are Keb' Mo's changes. Also, the Nevada / California issue goes back to Johnny Cash's lyrics :)

John, I found it. I have a song written, just need to record it.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

  • Excellent blues guitar on Jonny’s classic. Nice slidin.

  • Nice rendition. I like the way you added the slide in there.

  • Check out the forum section and find the Christmas album sign up if interested.

  • Some nice gear Constantine ! telecaster CBG ! Smoking ! cool dude ! Yup do ! send entry i mean ! he did one i believe two versions back ,but i have to look up what he send in , but i allways wonderd why he never sends in while he does video;s all year round ?UJ i mean  you got the gear ,now the song!

but mind no copy righted songs!

  • This is an awesome cover!

  • Constantine, Reno being in Nevada would not land you in a California prison for shooting someone.  Maybe the city should be Frisco or Fresno.  Other than that I like your lyrics change.  No one wants to sing about shooting someone to see if they die unless it was a politician.

  • Cool! I didn't know about it, though certainly would like to submit something!

  • Pretty good KebMo/Johnny.   I saw a good special on Johnny and June last night,

Hey, Constantine.  Did you see there is a CBN Christmas album being made and looking for songs?  I think they don't want songs with copy rights.   So far, I have not come up with a song I have not done on past albums.  I am in kind of the mood for doing John Denver's Please Daddy Don't Get Drunk This Christmas.   But, nahh.
