My Hawaiian style diddley bow, or doodley bow, is 30" long and 2.5"wide and 2" inches tall. I used a guitar tuning peg, a Hawaii mint tin and some scrap wood to build it. the paint job was done with acrylic paint and paint pens. I also used a metallic gold pen for the outlines. Small felt pads were stuck to the bottom of the feet.In the video I am running the diddley bow through the iShred app and into my iPad. The app Loopy was used to record my loops. The drum tracks were put down with a Roland Handsonic 10. The lead synth was done on my Korg Kaossilator Pro running through another Kaoss pad. A Griffin iMic was used as the audio interface for the iPad and a Korg nanokontrol was employed for midi control.I had some trouble getting a clean signal and for some reason the recording came out very low too so I used garageband to help bump up the levels and reduce some of the hiss and shape the sound. Another problem I keep running into is the nanokontrol kept getting flicked off for no apparent reason.

  • Thanks for checking out my video and the comment Justin. You also reminded me that I need to blow the dust off my gear and do some more recording!

  • awesome diddley bow! I really enjoyed the inventive way you built up the track... cool effects~ OF COURSE the lizard loved it!

  • Aloha Roadkill I really appreciate the comment and stoked you like the video and tune. I am am trying to put more time into my music and recording the results. However, I get a little frustrated when I hit technical snags or lack the ability to play something I come up with consistently. I will keep putting stuff out there and continue to learn as much as I can from all the talented folks who frequent the nation. I have also committed myself to being a little more involved with the community here and not such a lurker

  • Great trans-inducing music. Very nice. I certainly hope there is more like this to come.

  • Thanks Jeff, I am working on putting together a song of some sort based around this short little jam. I just need to get my recording technique dialed in a little tighter

  • thats an awesome riff you got there!

  • mahalo Silent Jim, Uncle John and wes carl for taking the time to comment. Stoked to know that people enjoy the short little jams and videos I put together. I hope to be a little more active in this forum as my skills and attempts at building homemade instruments increase. I have a few more already in the works!

  • Pretty diddley.   Yuppers on what Mr. Carl said.  Like the loop and good playing.
