Hi folksThis video is to announce the first ever “Cigar Box Guitar Shindig” to be held at The Saracen’s Head Public House, Fairfield Terrace, Newton Abbot, Devon on Sunday 10th July 2011 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m..After a showing of the short documentary, Cigar Box Revolution UK, I will be attempting to destroy the myth that “Cigar Box Guitars are just for playing blues, innit?”. Then there will be several other live acts performing their own songs and some standards through the afternoon/evening and an open mic session will be slotted in the proceedings if anyone wants to come along just to play a couple of numbers.A barbecue will be available and we will have stalls selling Cigar Box Guitars and related music equipment and no doubt CD’s will be on sale too.Even if you know nothing about the Cigar Box movement you should come along and meet the people behind it. This gig is being presented with the support and assistance of the Home Grown Music Collective which is a newly founded organisation to promote the doctrine that “making music is accessible to EVERYONE, regardless of their financial situation, social standing or geographical setting”. For more info and/or to join the Collective go to:http://www.homegrownmusiccollective.comMy thanks to the members and others who have offered their time, services and equipment to help make this a special event and if works there WILL be another.
