Chris Workman on Dad's Telebro

This was going to be a National type Dobro until I gave up trying to bend the steel and solder. Then went to 3 sections of 3/4" plywood / old classicaL guitar neck / matched curley ash back from a fire wood pile. Then decided to use some telecaster pick ups that I had. ( ventage Stewmac)

  • Excellent. Nice sound.
  • Brilliant!
  • Yes.
  • So let me get this straight.  You didn't have to bend the sides because you cut down in the shape of the dobro and then cut out the middle like a donut?
  • Very sharp, great sound.

  • I sawed the plywood to a ruff shape of the dobro O.D.  Then sawed the inside leaving approx 1" thick wall thickness. First layer was in line with nick, secound layer was perpendicular to nick and then the last layer in line with nick again.,  I used garella glue and many clamps.  After glueing I fine tuned the sawing and sanded the OD to final shape.  I pulled the neck from a scrap classical guitar.
  • Great job on that cool build.  You sound good on it too.
  • So the sides are 3/4" plywood you bent?   How did you do that?
