A cheap, easy and effective way to get low string action (height above the fret board) and hold the strings in place.

That pops, Derek! You make some good sounding and playing gits.

I like to do zero frets since it saves time getting the nut slot perfect, especially on a 6. Pop rivets with the shanks turned around on each end make good trees with the screw eyes too. Here's a pop rivet tree:

Now that is some good old common sense Uncle. I think I try that on the Partagus, the height is a bit high for picking.

That is a good method too, AGP.  I have used it a lot.   But it is easy to get the action too low or too high or uneven from bass side to treble side.  And often, I have still needed string guides.

A good common sense method 'UJ', have done something similar on a few unfretted builds in the past using a bit of Brass Piano Hinge from my faithful old recycled Piano stock from a couple of years back, posted a new fretted build today using said Piano Hinge, but the actions bit high at the Nut end so will embed it deeper when time permits :-)

Thanks Dave and Danny.  Danny, it works well for fretless too.  I like my fretless string height low by the nut and a bit under a quarter inch at the 12th fret.  Then I can do some finger notes or chords.
