Thanks, Daniel and Derek.  Daniel for DGBE use the four small strings from a set of six.  Gitty's GDG strings are very good and Pick sells some that are excellent.  I am a cheap-ass and generally get sets of six from Musicians Friend- their Musicians Gear brand that go for under $3.00 a set.  I have some of Gittys GDG on hand for the next build with those.

Derek, we use a lot of the same tunings.  I kind of forget about that open D you mention and should try it again.  The thing is, that I can play key of D pretty well and easily on the DGBE.

I've only used open C once or twice, maybe should use it more, guitar sounds great Uncle J.

Great info John. My home tuning is DGBE, then I also like he G & D based tunings DGBD, DF#AD and DGGD for my 4's. That C tuning has a nice full sound.

Thank you John. Lots to digest. Do you always start with the lowest string. (Gitty sells strings they say are mage for open GDG. Are they special strings or just the select set from another set?) Reason I ask is because sometimes strings need to be coaxed into submission.

Yup, Poorness.  Got to appreciate them.  They don't seem to come along often.  I wish I could sing more songs in C.

AGP, you'd need to go with the 4 small strings from a 6 set.  It's a higher tone than GDGB, but awfully pretty sounding.   I hope you like it.   Thank you, sir.

Yakety Yak all ya like "UJ', I have a few 4 stringers tuned GDBE, including one I'm not all that happy with, CGCE may be the appropriate remedy, will definitely give it a go.  :-)

Nice video John. Gotta love those light bulb moments with various tunings.

Thanks, Buggy.  It reads,           Uncle John's Pawn Shop
                                                            Fast Out Bail Bonds.

It's a phony business, in my head only, and located at the corner of whimsy and imagination.

What does your shirt say " Uncle Johns Pawn.. ? ( lady or Monday's?) "trying to work it out..

but good tunings by the way ;>)

Danny Boy, thanks for the kind words.  Put on your seat belts.   Fours are fun.

Thanks, Dave.  I use some key of D and can sometimes stand on my tiptoes for C.
