The small family farms passed down from generations before are fewer and fewer! I could metaphorically say big corporations represent the scarecrow here, but they feed the world! Droughts and flooding, market conditions, and the fragile human conditions. The scarecrow also frightens the dove and crow, but not the  Bollweevil and aphids ! Edgar Allen Poe guarding the garden I guess. A real thinking song it is, well sung and played A.D!

Yes Dark i believe he wrote this in conjunction whit the wave of suicide in the farming community in rural USA, there is a study on that, that people in a unstable time in there live ,who read the bible and in perticular Revalations by Johannes, can not come to grips whit there live and christianety and in the end try suicide. Not meaning that we follow that lead but talk matters of care , about and be aware of the bobytraps in live, to bad you can not find your thing in my take on this must bee becouse your in a others state of mind ,closing of a periode, and working to a new place and a famely reuinion. but that dont matter there are a millioen ears in the world !
