I use these tools in all of my ukulele and guitar building projects.

What are you favorite luthier tools?

Coping saw gets used on most builds for mine and I use a small jeweler frame type saw to hold those torch cleaner tips for cutting nut slots.

Thanks for all the info, guys.

It sounds like I need to learn the "way of the cabinet scraper".  I actually have a cabinet scraper, but I am not a expert with it.  Do you have any tips?

Thanks for the info Daniel. A few of those I don't have but might have get my hands on. I agree with Diglydog about the cabinet scraper which I use after rasping to give a smooth finish that needs very little sanding. I have a set of hand cut Dragon rasps from StewMac that I love and which have pretty much replaced my Nicholson rasps for neck shaping.

That's a nice set of basic tools.  I'd add cabinet scrapers.  They are very controlable and give an excellent finish with a variety of profiles.  Once you get used to preparing the edge properly, they can remove wood surprisingly quickly.

Good stuff.  I love those two home made multi-tools.

Hand tools...small block plane, 4 in hand rasp for shaping and wood removal, fret saw, nippers, bastard file, sometimes a chisel, claw hammer and point set.   But I am also happy to have and use inexpensive table and miter saws, a reciprocating saw,  and I love my random orbital disc sander.
