Yes Jim, remembering lyrics can be a challenge for me! And many years ago (I am slow learner) I did give up on trying to sound exactly like the original guy.

Yup Derek. The thing is, when we try to sound like somebody else we do ourselves a disservice. We need to open our mouth, try to remember lyrics and do the best we can to sound just like who we are.

Hehehe! I love Hank and Mr. Dylan so we are on the same page Jim! When I first started learning Dylan songs my wife said I didn't HAVE to try to sing like him too LOL. Hank left such a lasting impression in very few years for such a young man.

Just kidding about the fisticuffs Derek. You know I love you!
But I'm a big fan of Hank W and always a fan of unpretentious realness and rawness in music. That's something rarely heard in Country or just about any other style of music nowadays!

Uh oh Derek. You and me might have to resort to fisticuffs! Hank Sr's voice was true to who he was and intonation is all subjective. There are a few artists like him (Bob Dylan and Tom Waits come to mind) who's style was so original and distinct that many folks were unsettled by the raw, real quality in their voice. The poetry and the emotion in their songs far transcended any perceived out of tuneness in the singing. That being said, I do understand your point of view and I submit this from my favorite old time fiddle player for your consideration. Lots of my friends tell me he's all out of tune and scratchy but man, I love the rawness!

Sounds good Shane. And in tune unlike the original. ;)

Magical indeed!! Singing doesn't suck it sounds just like a Shane Speal version which is as it should be!
