I'll Fly Away - Sunday Gospel on a cigar box mandolin

I was gifted this box a week ago today. It came out pretty good and I had fun building it. That is not always the case - sometimes I am Junk~pile Johnny.

The empty chair has some meaning for me.

Thanks, Kale.  It is a nice place to sit and play or watch a movie.

Good playing and singing John but I had to say I really like that background... something about the wood paneling and empty chair just seems right.

Thanks!  I just kind of do what I like and what I hear.

I dig the old-timey sound you get - the strings and vocal really ringing out. Sorta sounds like archived recordings. Authentic.

Thanks, Rick and Alan.  Rick, I DO look best in poor lighting.   I love that version of the song too, Alan.  A top 3 movie for me too.

Another fine Mando to add to the Maestro's collection, and a great choice of Song for its debut, very partial to the Gillian Welch/Alison Kraus version from "Oh Brother", and don't get me wrong, I'm not saying your an ugly old coot, But those two Lassies are a lot prettier than you ;-D

Your junk pile is a treasure trove Johnny! May I say that particular backdrop is great for your complexion and general handsome looks. It brings out the youth colors Uncle. Great song, very moving, and another winner build that sounds great. Now go back to filming in black and white before your head explodes ha. I love the song John! I don’t particularly like the fact you look so much younger than me though. I’ll be checking to see if I can get a bargain on color video tape.

Thanks, Papa!

An aloud LOL, Doug.  Yes it is.  I got that box gifted to me and HAD to use it.  Now I hope to not build for a while.  Got a little wood project for a fund raiser and that may help me not build.  I was going to make a PVC didgereedoo, but now seem out of the mood.

Great choice for your demo song! Your new mandolin looks and sounds great. It’s hard to stop building; isn’t it?
