As for the wrong-ended tuners/tailpiece; i'm no fan of headless Steinberger guitars either, it was a decision made initially to maximise scale length (I'm working with tapered table legs as wood stock for the neck, if the tuners were at the nut end they would have to be 4/5-in-a-line and I'd lose 3", this way I can squeeze the tuners in on left & right sides to get a scale length comparable to Fender Jaguar etc at 23"), and it also helps balance the instrument's weight... The tin is light!).

Coming from a background in archtops, which descended from Mandolins, I wonder if the tuners traditionally being at the far end of the neck may be an inherited characteristic from violin construction, where the playing position would make the arrangement i use highly impractical... any thoughts?

Thanks for sharing. I like the electric sound, but how do they perform acoustically? Not to be negative, but personally I never cared for the tuners / tailpiece design. There is a good reason why tuners are on the left side. Regardless, seems like you are producing a quality box. Enjoy.
