Another one o’ them great ol’ Sunday School favorites. Drunken Sailor on a three string cigar box guitar. From the one-song album “Sailor’s Jes’ A Cowboy On A Boat”.

Yeah, ADEker, it’s an oldie... a seaman’s work song from at least as far back as early 1800’s. The tune is even older, an early Irish folk tune with Gaelic lyrics. Irish Rovers have prolly the best known version here, though like all folk songs, everbody has done el it. Even R. Walker!

This is the guy who made this tune famous in my neck of the woods, he's dead now ,seen him perform it a couple times, back in the day ,he had his own saloon/bar in Antwerp /belgium, allway's thougt he was the writer of the tune , maybee you know differend,Rope? that sounded great specialy whit the flanger effect on the back beat! and cowboy's drink and sail so its more then logic that they yeap about it ,but i never heard it on Sunday school !!

You got a way with word play, for sure UncleJohn! Your ‘worms’ however are entirely your own concern...

Curse you Rope Barron, I went for a bike ride and dog walk this morning and this song kept popping into my head.  I am a whistler, so maybe someone else heard me and caught the ear worm too.

Yeah, UncleJohn, that shave-belly part was always my kids’ favorite of the old-timey verses. I wrote a bunch a odd ones but just kept the “old whore” ones here, as they sounded like they might be of a piece with them old 1800s stanzas. Thanks Uncle!

Thanks PoornessStudios and DougThorsvik! I’m not much on pyro-teknik guitar fingering’ but, like you, Doug, I can figure me some chords, settle into a groove and make myself comfortable.

Wow!   Fantastic singing an ambience.   Aw-Thentic as heck.   Great old folk song.  We learned and sang this in grade school- well not some of the verses you did.  Shave his belly with a rust razor?!?!?Probably not considered grade school appropriate now!

Another consummate performance Rope! You are an Entertainer! Sounds like you attended a very interesting Sunday School class; I suppose you brought the color.
