Thanks guys. Dunno what to tell you Sammy. I suspect I did the bolt on neck completely wrong. It took ages to get it to sit right. And I ended up having to put two little wood screws into the bridge from underneath the lid - it kept pulling off. No bracing on the lid (can't see how it would need it, but perhaps the right bracing would make it even louder). Lots of blocking at the neck end. Took ages to get the scarf joint butted up tight enough. Next time I'll use geared tuners for sure (good ukes have them anyway). The bridge was pretty easy - holes in the rear end for the string knots to fit into and slots no bigger than needed to let the string come out over the top. No pickup so the bone bridge saddle just sits on top, not in a slot. If you started with a thick enough piece of wood you could make the slanted headstock and the neck from one piece without using a scarf joint. I put about 4mm of taper in the neck (2mm/side). I think next time I'll use a fingerboard so I can come over the top of the box a little - that always looks better than just butting up to the edge. The box is one of those deeper, square-ish ones.

Lovin it Glenn, I'm trying to get my second cigar box uke finished but think I've hit the wall sadly. Your uke looks and sounds great. Wondering if you've posted any info on how you built it anywhere? cheers

Oh what a pretty uke- the rose head stock crowns it.  And man, it sounds maybe even prettier.
