A Sobering thought on safety & lessons learnt

Posted on February 11, 2013 at 6:35am 6 Comments

Just had an incident happen in my life that really drove home the safety issues when working with any power tools.

A friend of mine died last week from a chainsaw accident.

Sadly it was not necessarily a fatal injury but because he was on his property by himself he bled out leaving two gorgeous angels 18 month and 4 years behind him.

What is it that I can take away from this tragedy to give it some…

These are some great sites that I have stumbled across that I dont want to lose. Hopefully others might find them useful. These are not specific CBG sites but rather amature luthier and Uke sites that I felt I could learn from and apply the information.

This woman is a school teacher who builds guitars during her summer holidays. Awesome site with a tour of her workshop, links to luthier supply shops & Jig ideas I spent about an hour on this site and there is so much to go…

But another useful lesson learnt. Click here for more pics  Never try and glue a bridge on to an existing finish. Wood glue requires contact with raw wood to glue…

Hi Penny,
I bought a magnetic pickup from you at Get Rooted 2014. I hope you don't mind if I ask a couple of questions. We did not have time to talk on the day and wanted to listen to more of Justin - how good is he?
You said I should run a wire from the bridge to the back of one of the pots. Does it matter if it is the volume or tone control and I solder in any particular place on the pot?
I am a novice at this but think I have it worked out and am having lots of fun.
Thanks
Brad

Peggy,

I'm taking this discussion off the forum page "How have CBG's Changed your life".  I have been pretty amazed about your attacking posts to a candid post of mine that I've met a few good friends.  It was meant a positive, but you didn't read it that way.  Instead of dropping it, you were the one who went on the attack.  Then you deleted a post I made, explaining my original post.  Now, you have gone on the attack again.

I have to wonder (and ask) if you are not the one with a negative attitude?  I apologize if I have offended you personally, but if you (carefully) reread the post, nothing was aimed your way until after you hammered me.  I have not wish to cause you any distress.  If you want to see my story in fullness, check my page, my posts, what I have contributed.  Then at least you will have context, before you go on attack.

Peace,

Sam

Ya it's "Eye Lashes"... a whole new meaning. Good idea with the safety glasses. With my builds a Hazmat suit might be useful as well...

Explosion is the right term. When they let go it's as loud as they get! Wild! You're always apprehensive when first tuning a new build. I often break strings birthing new instruments, but when the bridge blows it's special terror...

Hey Penny, nice music videos. That fluffy tin really rocks. I still lack the gear to make videos. Maybe soon for me. I've got one of my own tunes posted now. It's off my new release "Holy Smokes". Say, did that bridge let loose while you were pickin. I've had that happen twice now. Even with the soundboard sanded to raw wood. Crap happens. .. Dave
