Looking to have a group of guys build a simple cbg in a hour or two in one sitting.  No real questions about building but looking for ideas on quick to apply (and dry) finishes for the neck.  Ideas?Continue

Ukulele bridge help

Hi all, building a traveler style uke.  Nearing the end, but the standard glue one uke bridge (rosewood and bone) I intended to use ends up about .25 inch / 6mm to low.  Neck and fretboard are glued…Continue

I am probably the last to know but I just discovered backing tracks. Tons of them on YouTube such as slow blues in G. Now I need to try to learn some solo riffs. Anyone have any favorite tracks to…Continue

I have now filled a fourth box of short pieces from a inch or two up to maybe a foot.  Any good ways to store these, or do you toss/burn them or do something else?  They can always be used for a…Continue

"Another unfinished finish is a light toasting with a heat gun or torch.  I like both coffee and vinegar/steel wool but both raise the grain and are pretty rough without a finish. Torching smoothes it a bit though while looking aged."

Kigar replied to Eliah Holiday's discussion Slides. Unable to try before buy, what to choose?

Kigar replied to Frank Scott's discussion Neck bow on a new unit?

License Plate Guitar

Posted on January 31, 2016 at 9:35pm 6 Comments

Thought I'd post this one, it was my second build.  Box was scrap hardwood flooring, the tongue side made a great recess for the plate.  The bottom is scrap thin ply of unknown origin.  The neck is the unique feature, it is half of a hickory branch that was originally intended for a bow but I decided the the knots and kink are beyond my bowyer abilities.  The kink made the string break for the tuners.  The action is no action, with the curvy branch it is slide only for this one.  I passed…
