"Good looking build.  I do better playing with my strings a bit wider apart, but that is a player preference thing.  Cool saddle.  Nice controls and placement."

"Could you upload a picture of the neck laid out with the box and bridge? It's gotta be doable, my Gibson has 24.75 inch scale and the bridge is 12 inches from the 14th fret. If you did the same your bridge would be about 2/3rds of the way…"

Christmas Time Tinjo

"Yes, I made them. They are 1/8th inch birch plywood from a big box hobby store. The plate at the neck through was the biggest challenge. The one at the tail was easier because of the simpler shape. I had to do it that way to cover an earlier mistake."

"Working on a round tinjo using a very old and not so flimsy fruit cake tin. It's been rough cutting the top hole for neck through. New tins are junk by comparison. Like you build. I appreciate the sound these make."

"Thanks for the complement and the warning Uncle John. The head stock is still about a half inch thick. The sapele was rough cut so it started out at about 15/16th thick. This provided enough wood to do the neck and head stock in one piece..adding…"

Christmas Tinjo - Code Name: Chirstmas Time

Posted on June 10, 2016 at 5:58pm 0 Comments

Well I've (finally) almost finished my first Tinjo so I thought I would let you see some pictures. Though it is louder than I thought it would be, it isn't really loud enough for a live band situation. While I might be OK with a microphone I will likely be adding a piezo and volume control (assuming the piezo reproduces the acoustic sound of the tinjo.

I found that tinjos have challenges that wood boxes don't have. One being the flimsyness of the tin compared to wood. I ended up using…

Canjos for the great niece and great nephew

Posted on January 1, 2016 at 12:16pm 2 Comments

Well I got busy and made a couple of canjos for the great niece and great nephew. Since the are 4 and 3 years old respectively, they will probably need adult supervision to start with. They are diatonically fretted with the 6 1/2 fret. I tuned them to D but since they are one string it really doesn't matter until they try to play with someone else. …
