Hey Turkeychicken, that Mike Mulligan vid is awesome. I love the blue light in the cap. He's a good player and a good band. Sure is gratifying to see and hear your work played. Thanks for the show....

I got interupted by a lady come to buy a ukulele. She went off with a nice old Silvertone baritone from the 50s. The string spacing on a lap steel is usually wider than standard 6 string. Some players don't like that. I do however. If you are used to 3 and 4 string you will like the wider spacing. Fitting the dots on the pup is what's important. You can get a cool Gretsch pup on ebay for low prices that is made for lap steels. It's Chinese, but i like them. Hope that helps... Oh, and a wood neck is just fine. A lot of the old metal Nationals have wood necks. ... Dave

Hey Turkeychicken, I got my body blanked out today up at the garden. I'll post photos tonight. A lap steel's just like a reso guitar only usually shorter. 23" scale or so. I have about 5 relics and 3 i've made laying around. Each has a different scale length. I just use one as a model to take measurements from. You could use any standard length however. The action is real high as a heavy bar is used. No frets needed, just markers of some sort. You have to see them clearly. I tune to a g tuning for country and old time. and I use an A6 tuning for Hawaiian: E,C#,A,F#,E,C# (from high to low). There are usually at least 24 fret markers. The pup is almost alway a bridge pup. Single coil would be old time lap steel.
