WELCOME to the madness, mate!!! Looks like I started a whole subgenre with this group. I got the inspiration from Naz Nomad and Ron Bross- Blame them...LOL!-...just posted pics of my contribution to the cause, the Lyra Mbira! Now I have to teach myself how to play the thing...LOL!!! CHEERS!
Have to catch up for a beer or two Will. I'll be back in town next Feb, in Thailand at the moment for work. Look forward to hearing some of your tunes.
Will re a Hurdy Gurdy!
I come from and Early Music background and a HG was always on the cards for me to make....BUT it was not until the CBN taught me a great lesson "No Rules" just have fun.
I never made one in the past because of "tradition" But now i have one.. soon to be two.
Be careful wanting one. Have a listen on U Tube before you enter the frustrating process of making a HG from scratch. I can put you on to some FREE plans but they are basically Traditional.
thanks for the tip mate.
yeah i've tryd the drilling, filing etc technique to no avail.
i noticed in your photos you used a partagas habana box on one of your masterpieces.
how did it go in terms of sound?
the reason i ask is im using the same box as a ukelele for my next project.
yeah i like the sound of the macanudo boxs aswell.
western red cedar.. cant go wrong.
Im probaly about half way throughfinishing it..
4 string tenor scale.
u got any tips on f holes without fancy tools
Hi Will,
Sorry, have no camera, apart from my video camera, but it also is falling apart(can only record straight to disk)
I will, however, sort out a little vid as to the construcion an perform upon it for some sound samples (maybe good for the recording thread on the site).
Cheers,
Rick.

The electronics on my "monster bass" are far from perfect and still need a bit of tweaking. But the two pickups do seem to be balanced and it is just the piezos that are a bit crazy. My diagram that I came up with is this:
Which is just a modified jazz bass schematic like this one here:
. I think my actual circuit is actually fine, but the dodgy connections and earthing issues are the main problems at the moment.

HELLO! I just posted 2 songs on my page today, and I thought you might find the second one interesting, as it involves sympathetic strings somewhat. It's pretty heavy! I'd be curious to know what you think of it, as the discussion page has taken on the wider musical spectrum of microtones and sympathetics. What have I started?? CHEERS!

Thank you for your comment! I don't know if you received my previous message, but you might look at a web site called "MICROTONALGUITAR.com" This should wet your palate a bit. CHEERS!

Hey Will, thanks for the kind words about my stuff.
I think what you're doing looks great. Did you ever video that double bass? I'd love to hear it. Cool that it has dulci fretting. I have an Ashbory style bass dulcimer on my list. That's the one that uses silicone rubber strings. Someone here has done a CBG like that I think? There are polyurethane strings available from a Bass Uke maker...
http://www.bassuke.com/
http://www.roadtoadmusic.com/Parts.html
They give a full double bass sound with string length from 18" to 23" so, smaller, more portable and low tension... all great CBG characteristics. They also use piezo pickups... Now I'm rambling. Anyway... I look forward to hearing your bass. It looks great. Later man...

Hey Will, nice looking CBGs. I've been swamped by dulcimer orders so haven't had much time to hang here. Still intend to get back to my resonator CBG sometime. My latest full sized hourglass dulcis can be seen here:
