Gee Michael, from the looks of it, you might not need any. From what I see so far, good work!
So, now the only thing I can see that you might want to investigate is this -- I can't tell if you made a recess for the lid in the neck. Usually ~1/4" or whatever the lid thickness is. I also make a second recess of 1/8" for the lid to resonate. Mark about 1/2"-1" into the lid recess and start the sound recess.
Now what this is going to do it two things -- the lid will vibrate better == better/more sound and weaken the neck. Oooops. Weaken the neck? Yep. Less material. So how would you fix that little bugger? Add material to the bottom of the neck inside the box.
This is where having a heel on the CBG comes in REAL handy. Now I don't know if you want to do this on your current build but in the future, add (glue/screw) a second strip to the bottom of the neck where it is inside the box. Extend this out of the box at the headstock end, creating a heel. Makes for well done build and is quite strong.
Biggest tip of all, I'm finding not to glue/screw the neck onto the bottom of the box. This will dull the sound vastly. Unless you are building a magnetic puckup (electric) CBG, don't have anything attached to the bottom.
I am not into laminating the neck pieces together to create a much stronger neck design. two 1x2 (.75"x1.5") pieces are glued together, then the neck profile is cut perpendicular to that joint. I select wood that the grain runs the 1.5" length, thus the gain when finally a neck is running with the glue joint and is perpendicular to the fretboard. Also use a fretboard to provide more dimensional stability (won't warp upwards).
Lamination is a pain, but quite effective -- even on poplar.
Now to glue or screw. 1) depends on you 2) depends on if you want to have the screws showing. That has never been a bad thing for me to have them show 3) would you ever want to change/repair the neck(?). These three things are my biggest considerations. (cont.)
Welcome aboard, Michael! You will find lots of helpful folks and information here on all things CBG (CBB, CBU, etc.) Feel free to poke around, ask questions, and post your stuff (photos, recordings, videos, etc.).
This video is the unboxing and the demonstration of a beautiful, six stringer built by Louie Lamanna. Join Louie and I June 15 at the second annual Pittsburg...
